In Indonesia, the use of cement tiles has been a tradition since ancient times, serving as elements to cover floors, walls, and even ceilings of spaces. Cement tiles hold not only a rich historical value but also reflect deep-rooted cultural significance. However, there has been limited research conducted, especially regarding the classical Indonesian cement tile motifs. Recognizing this gap, the classical cement tile patterns deserve to be reintroduced to the modern society as a form of cultural preservation and an introduction to a new generation. Typography serves as a suitable medium to showcase the abundance of classical cement tile motifs. Therefore, in this final project, four types of fonts will be crafted based on these cement tile designs. The creation of these fonts will adhere to the four fundamental principles of typography, encompassing legibility, readability, visibility, and clarity. These font variations will be developed by extracting the visual characteristics of cement tiles and transforming them into typographic elements. Subsequently, these four font styles will be compiled into a specimen book, detailing their forms, characteristics, progress, and applications. This work is anticipated to ignite and nurture public awareness of the cultural value of cement tiles. Furthermore, it is hoped to inspire the enthusiasm of academics and practitioners in the field of arts and design to engage in similar research, even delving deeper into explorations rooted in the diverse cement tile motifs for incorporation into modern designs. text
