Summary: | Hands are one of the greatest human assets. Hands can help humans do many things, but that
doesn't mean they can be used arbitrarily and continuously. Excessive and prolonged use of hands
can cause problems. One of the problems that can occur is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). CTS
generally occurs due to the cumulative use of hands that are repeated for a long time (repetitive
forceful works). Art and design students are one of the occupations that have a risk of developing CTS
because intense, repetitive, and long-duration use of hands cannot be separated from their main
activities. However, the insight and awareness of art and design students are still lacking regarding
CTS. Therefore, proper and appealing educational media are needed to provide education and
increase awareness of art and design students about CTS. To solve this problem, the author designed
an interactive experimental book about CTS by using experimental and interactive concepts in
various design elements such as visual assets, colors, typography, layouts, materials, and printing
techniques. The design concept of this book is based on three keywords, crafty, thoughtful, and
entice, which were determined after analyzing data obtained through literature studies, interviews,
distributing questionnaires to the target audience, and data from studies of similar works. Through
this design, it is hoped that art and design students can gain insight about CTS and raise awareness
of the risks of CTS. In addition, it is hoped that this design can be a reference for other similar designs. |
