Description
Summary:Major Depressive Disorder(MDD) is a form of mental disorder that can affect people from all walks of life. One population that is at significant risk of experiencing major depression is college students. This can be caused by various challenges faced by students, such as financial problems, interpersonal relationship difficulties, and academic workload-related problems. MDD is one type of mental disorder that can be treated. However, if left untreated, MDD can lead to severe consequences. Therefore, this research aims to construct a mathematical model that represents the phenomenon of depression in the university student population. The model will specifically examine the influence of academic workload on students' mental health. The existence and stability of equilibrium points obtained from the model will be analyzed. Simulations will be conducted for various conditions. Additionally, sensitivity analysis will be performed to identify parameters that significantly affect the number of MDD cases among students. Based on the conducted research, when academic workload does not affect students' mental health, it can be concluded that all students can be free from MDD. In this condition, the most influential factor on the number of depressed students is the interaction between students. However, if academic workload does impact students' mental health, there will still be a portion of the student population experiencing major depression. Nevertheless, the number of students suffering from major depression can be minimized by encouraging students to seek prompt treatment from the appropriate psychiatrists.
