Description
Summary:Population growth in Medan is very uncontrolled, causing several problems. One of them is the urban transportation system which causes congestion. Congestion in the city of Medan is indicated by the increasing number of vehicles not accompanied by an increase in road volume with roads that do not experience a boost. The road network has short routes and many intersections, causing a slowdown in the flow of vehicles, especially at intersections that often experience congestion, especially during rush hours. Busy in the morning and evening when there are many community activities to go to/from work. This study aims to model the choice of modes of travel for working people based on potential demand in the development of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) mode of transportation as an alternative to the operation of the mass transit system in Medan City. Alternative ways of choice in this study include private vehicle modes of transportation, online transportation, and LRT. This study uses the pe multinomial logit analysis method with SPSS 27 software to determine the factors influencing mode selection preferences, probability, sensitivity analysis, and the potential travel demand that LRT can serve in Medan City. The factors affecting the travel mode choice in this model are gender, age, occupation, income, and trip frequency. The probability of alternative modes obtained based on the modeling that has been done is LRT by 45%, online transportation by 8%, and private vehicles by 47%. The sensitivity results based on the scenarios carried out show that the LRT alternative mode is the most sensitive compared to other alternative modes. The potential demand for the development of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) mode of transportation as an alternative to the operation of the mass transit system in Medan City is 36.5%.
