The focus of this research highlights the specific role of Sanento Yuliman in the exhibition. Sanento Yuliman, an Indonesian art critic and academic, made significant contributions to the development of the New Art Movement's ideas. His essay published in 1984 titled "Dua Seni Rupa" served as the conceptual basis for the "Project 1" exhibition. The methodology of this research includes an approach to the exhibition history as well as the application of high art and low art theory inspired by Theodor W. Adorno's views. Data collection was conducted through interviews, archival analysis, photographs, documents, and newspaper articles. The goal of this research is to understand how exhibitions like "Project 1" can be considered research subjects that reflect the evolution of exhibition history in Indonesia. This research emphasizes the importance of "Project 1," New Art Movement Exhibition, and Sanento Yuliman's contribution in the context of curatorial work that shapes the discourse of visual art and its relevance to contemporary art developments. This research demonstrates that, on one hand, the "Project 1 Fantasy World Supermarket" exhibition adopts a collective curatorial practice that presents a series of works without emphasizing individual artist identities. However, the exhibition is also based on strong research efforts, with a focus on the hierarchy of art, design, and urban cultural practices in the context of the New Order era in the 1980s. Sanento Yuliman's role is significantly present in the research and collective curatorial work he conducted with the entire team. "Fantasy World Supermarket" showcases various visual materials such as stickers, illustrated t-shirts, film posters and banners, fashion trends, advertisements, magazines, and even comics. text |
