To address these challenges, the concept of sustainable fashion has emerged. Sustainable fashion in textile products involves the use of organic materials, animal-free components, and the utilization of waste. This study focuses on the use of organic materials in the production of shirts by a company called Tencel. Nevertheless, the company still employs synthetic screen- printing ink for these shirts, which does not align with the principles of sustainable fashion. Therefore, the objective of this research is to develop an organic screen-printing ink. The method used for developing the organic ink is the design for environment (DfE) approach. Within this framework, life cycle assessment (LCA) is utilized as a tool for analyzing the environmental impact of a product based on ISO 14040:2016. There are four stages according to this ISO standard, starting from defining the boundaries, inventorying data, assessing environmental impacts, and conducting the analysis. Additionally, the Design of Experiment (DoE) technique is employed to determine the optimal formulation of the organic ink. In this research, two response variables are determined, namely colour fastness to water and colour fastness to soap, with three experimental factors, each having two levels, resulting in eight combinations. During the experimentation, the colour fastness to water is replicated twice, while colour fastness to soap is replicated four times. The final ink formulation will undergo testing based on the SNI ISO-C06:2010 A2S guidelines. The research findings indicate that the use of mordants significantly influences the colour fastness of the organic ink on fabrics. Initial testing resulted in values ranging from 1 to 2 for the eight samples evaluated. Based on these results, design improvements were made, and subsequent testing revealed minimal colour variation compared to the original samples. However, due to time constraints, the redesigned ink formulation has not yet been tested. In the calculation of carbon emission, the amount of carbon produced is less than 0.09 kgCO2, which is 0.073 kgCO2, lower than in previous studies. From the results of these studies, companies can use them as guidelines for developing organic inks. text
