ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL DIGITAL IMAGE CORRELATION SOFTWARE FOR LARGE DEFORMATION MEASUREMENTS

Deformation measurements can be used to analyze a structure or an object when it is loaded. Measurement of deformation can later be limited to a stress field that can be used to determine how close the condition of a structure or object is to its critical condition. One of the deformation measuremen...

Measurement of deformation can later be limited to a stress field that can be used to determine how close the condition of a structure or object is to its critical condition. One of the deformation measurement methods that is often used today is DIC (digital image correlation), the advantage of this method compared to others is the practicality of measurement and the ease of measuring deformation fields. DIC works by tracking the locking of digital image subsets before and after deformation. Several years ago FTMD ITB has succeeded in developing DIC software for deformation measurements using template matching correlation parameters such as the sum of squared differences and cross-correlation. Then this year, FTMD ITB developed DIC software with parameter correlation feature matching, the algorithm used at FTMD ITB is SURF (accelerated tough feature). The difference between template matching and feature matching is that in feature matching measurement there is no incremental process (repeat process to get the final result) so that the processing time becomes faster. However, the newest DIC FTMD ITB program cannot be used to measure large deformations. This undergraduate project will try to overcome the problems encountered when measuring large deformations in the DIC FTMD ITB program. This DIC program after being modified is able to measure large deformations even though there are still large errors. This study also found a skipping method which explains that the greater the skipping number, the smaller the average measurement error. text
