The exploration of the medium in the artist's work process is one of the things that influences the form of sound in the work. One artist who uses sound as a significant element in his work is Etza Meisyara. Etza Meisyara's works are unique because of her interest in intermedia works and her creative approach which is triggered by medium exploration. This research was conducted to understand the effect of medium exploration on sound and how sound exploration appears in Etza Meisyara's works. This research is a qualitative research. Nelson's artistic method theory is used to analyze the influence of medium exploration on sound in works. In addition, Kim-Cohen's cochlear and non-cochlear theory and sound sensibility theory by Salome Voegelin will be used to answer questions about the presence of sound in samples of works. Terry Barrett's art critique method will be used to analyze the work. Data collection techniques used in this study were literature review, observation, and direct interviews with artists. The results of the analysis show that the exploration of the medium affects the presence of sound in the work. The presence of sound is determined by the context and the artist's interest in exploring the properties of the medium. Through exploratory observations of the medium of Etza Meisyara's etching works in the 2018-2022 period, it can be concluded that the sounds in Etza's works are increasingly varied. As the exploration of the medium is carried out, artists find more and more ways to present sound elements in their works. Etza's more recent works show a higher sound tendency compared to the early phases of etching medium exploration. The sounds present in Etza's works are varied. Not all of Etza's works have sound elements that can be heard, but they appear as concepts or become part of the medium's exploration. Forms of cochlear or non-cochlear sounds help listeners identify the involvement of sound in works, while Voegelin's sound concepts help listeners understand the contribution of sound in the meaning of works. text
