The advantage of ?-sitosterol that can reduce colesterol level in blood stream up to 10% makes the compound to be produced in a massive number. The known source of ?-sitosterol is Talinum paniculatum. But, the low number of yield and long period of cultivation time are the main problem in producing ?-sitosterol from Talinum paniculatum. This research was conducted to determine the effect of methyl jasmonate which is a universal elicitor that can induce secondary metabolite in hydroponic system.. Cultivation was carried out in hydroponic Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) system for 28 days in which the 7 day last was elicitation periode. The concentration used in this research was 0 mM (control), 0,05 mM, 0,1 mM, dan 0,2 mM. The effect of methyl jasmonate were reviewed from root dry weight, root to shoot rasio, ?-sitosterol content, and ?-sitosterol productivity. In this study, the highest dry weight was achieve using methyl jasmonate concentration 0,05 mM which resulted in 0,44 ± 0,20 g root dry weight which used in methyl jasmonate concentration 0,05 Mm. The enchancement was about 74% higher than root dry weight on control. The highest ?-sitosterol content which was about 0,203 ± 0,02 mg/ g dry weight were achieved with the addition of methyl jasmonate concentration 0,05 mM. On the other hand, the highest productivity of ?-sitosterol was also achieve with the addition of methyl jasmonate concentration 0,05 mM. The productivity of ?-sitosterol on this research was about 3,4 mg/m2/month. text
