Description
Summary:Sign language, which is the main means of communication for the deaf, has many different variations in each region. However, linguistic studies on sign language have not been widely carried out even though its existence continues to develop until it is acculturated in several areas. As a diversity of languages and cultural identities for people with hearing impairment, regional languages also need to be preserved. Bandung as a city that has the highest type of deaf out of all persons with disabilities in it, has a large and active deaf community in introducing distinctive gestures. In fact, several studies have shown that the development of regional sign language led to the construction of the first special school in the city of Bandung. The new media can help maintain the typical Bandung sign language to last longer so that it does not experience changes, transitions and language death as well as being a medium for dissemination. The digital dictionary was chosen to be a medium for documentation of Bandung sign language because it fits the needs of problems regarding language resistance. The nature of digital can be interpreted as intangible or virtual goods so that it requires a place to run a series of systems. A digital operating system can be summarized in a single unit in the form of an application that can run on two types of devices, namely desktop and mobile. Referring to the design of a digital dictionary that functions as a tool, it requires usability flexibility, so that the application will be designed on mobile media (mobile apps). The design of the dictionary uses a visual aid in the form of a 3- dimensional (3D) type of animation as a conveyer of the language you are looking for or you want to know as a learning medium. So the purpose of the linguistic study of Bandung sign language is to be able to document the language in a digital dictionary in the form of a 3D animation display. The design of the digital dictionary is also useful as a medium for learning about Bandung sign language to become a tool for communicating with deaf people in the Bandung area. This research uses the design thinking method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out directly in the Deaf community in the city of Bandung and will develop collectively in line with the findings of regional Bandung sign language.
