The teeth are one of the important digestive organs for humans. Damage to the teeth will disrupt the human digestive process. Tooth decay can occur in all parts of the tooth including the root tissue. To overcome this damage, endodontic treatment or root canal treatment can be performed. The most important stage in root canal treatment is the root canal preparation stage. This root canal preparation is done using a rotary file instrument. This study was conducted to determine the characteristics of tooth root canal failure during preparation.
This study was conducted by simulating dental root canal preparation using Abaqus software by applying the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method. Previously, validation will be carried out by simulating the tensile test to determine the effect of SPH parameters, the effect of tensile test parameters, and failure parameters to be applied to the simulation of dental root canal preparation.
Some parameters that affect the simulation results are mesh size and distance between particles. Meanwhile, parameters that have no effect such as tensile speed. The failure parameters of brittle cracking and ductile damage successfully approached the failure characteristics of the material in the actual situation. Meanwhile, ductile damage failure criteria are better applied to the simulation of dental root canal preparation using the SPH method.
