Description
Summary:This experiment tested a treatment that uses modeling based on sense making and reasoning to students. This treatment is expected to increase students' motivation to learn mathematics. This experiment is qualitative. The subjects in this experiment were three grade 8 students at a junior high school in Cimahi. The material covered in the experiment is shapes. This topic is a prerequisite for the topic of that students will learn in class. There are 4 stages in this experiment, namely the stage of obtaining initial data, the stage of confirmation, the stage of applying the treatment and the stage of evaluation. The treatment is given in the form of mathematical modeling that emphasize reasoning and sense making. The three students received treatment in three meetings that took place over a six-week period. At each meeting students were asked to work on two treatment questions and one evaluation question. Students are asked to complete both treatment questions and explain the process orally. Based on the experiments conducted, working on modeling problems based on sense making and reasoning seems to be able to increase student motivation.
