Summary: | The research was conducted to examine the effect of variations in foundation
parameters on the pile-raft coefficient (the proportion of the load on the piles)
and pile capacity mobilization. The author also studied the influence of
foundation settlement regarding the variables and their relationship in dense
sandy soils.
The research was done numerically with PLAXIS 3D. The influence of
foundation parameters was determined by parametric study on the pile-raft
coefficient and pile capacity mobilization. The effect of foundation settlement
on the variables was analyzed. The research was also aimed at developing
general equations to determine the load proportion and the mobilization
capacity of piles at certain foundation settlements.
It was found that changes in the foundation parameters have an influence on
the proportion of the load on the piles and the mobilization of the pile capacity.
In addition, the analysis showed a distinct curve behavior before and after the
pile capacity was fully mobilized. The results showed that the curves were
similar in shape, thus a general equation was developed to determine the
percentage of load on the piles and the pile capacity mobilization at a certain
foundation settlement.
