INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/76902 This final project proposes a comprehensive approach to enhance embankment stability assessment in mining company's tailings management operations, guided by the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology. The DMAIC approach provides a structured problem-solving framework, starting with the definition of clear objectives and research questions, followed by data gathering and analysis to identify areas for improvement. Through the DMAIC process, the study identifies the limitations of current monitoring solutions, particularly the lack of real-time capabilities, which hinder the prompt assessment and mitigation of embankment stability issues. To address these challenges, the project recommends the implementation of Fiber Optic instrumentations as the proposed solution. Fiber Optic cables offer advanced sensing capabilities, enabling the early detection of structural issues within embankments by detecting vibrations and measuring temperature variations. By integrating real-time monitoring capabilities through Fiber Optic instrumentations, continuous assessment and immediate identification of potential risks are achieved, ensuring safety and minimizing failures. The proposed approach using Fiber Optic instrumentations, driven by the DMAIC methodology, offers valuable enhancements to embankment stability assessment in mining's tailings management operations. It empowers data-driven decisionmaking, proactive measures, and improved overall stability practices while safeguarding surrounding areas and ensuring regulatory compliance. In conclusion, the systematic application of the DMAIC methodology leads to the recommendation of Fiber Optic instrumentations as a valuable solution for realtime monitoring, accuracy, and precision, thereby fostering resilience and sustainability in mining operations. text
