The rapid development of infrastructure in Jakarta has led to a significant
reduction in available aboveground space. Therefore, one solution to this issue has
been the increasing development of underground structures in recent years,
including the construction of the Jakarta MRT Station. The assessment of structural
deformation due to earthquakes becomes crucial in evaluating the stability and
safety of the underground structures. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the
performance of various methods in determining the deformation of underground
structures, also referred to as "Racking deformation," which involves lateral
displacement of structural elements in structures with rectangular cross-sections.
In this study, three different methods are compared to evaluate the racking
deformation of the underground stations in the Jakarta MRT station. The methods
include the simplified frame method and Two-dimensional (2D) finite element
method for Pseudo-static analysis and Dynamic analysis to conduct a more
comprehensive evaluation. Performance indicators such as the magnitude of
deformation and bending moment are considered for the evaluation.
The results indicate that the dynamic analysis yields the most conservative racking
deformation, while the simplified frame analysis and Pseudo-static analysis
consistently produce similar racking deformation values. Additionally, in terms of
bending moment, the simplified frame analysis generally generates the highest
values, but the differences in bending moment values between the Pseudo-static and
Dynamic analyses are relatively significant.
Overall, the results of the study show that in the analysis of racking deformation of
underground structures, especially for complex soil-structure configurations such
as the Jakarta MRT station, it is necessary to consider a method that can predict
the deformation behavior of structures in a more representative, as conducted in
dynamic analysis. This study recommends the utilization of dynamic analysis as
verification for pseudo-static analysis under similar geometry structures and soil
conditions."
