Summary: | Intsia is one of genus belonging to Leguminosae family of plant. This genus consists of 8 species and only 3 of them are found in Indonesia i.e. Intsia bijuga, Intsia palembanica and Intsia plurijuga. This genus is locally known as 'merbau' or 'kayu besi' and is used by people as building materials (heartwood), food (seed), and traditional medicines (stembark and leaves). In this research, the secondary metabolites of the heartwood of Intsia palembanica growing in Papua have been isolated, and five pure compounds were obtained. Two of compounds are flavonoids type and the structure of each compound was determined as naringenin (10) and aromadendrin (24). While the spectroscopic data of three other compounds are not yet measured. Naringenin (10) is a compound previously isolated from Intsia bijuga, while aromadendrin (24) was obtained for the first time from Intsia genus but was also found in other plant species i.e. Cudrania javanensis, and Dillenia retusa. The structures of those compounds were determined based on spectroscopic data, including UV, IR and 1H-NMR spectra. |
