Indonesia is a country with a majority Muslim population. The existence of mosques is an important part to support the needs of Muslims in carrying out worship in public spaces. However, the problem until now is that the application of accessibility has not been widely implemented in the construction of mosques. Facts in the field are still found many difficulties in reaching the accessibility of the mosque, especially for people with physical disabilities. The issue related to the prohibition of wheelchair users entering the mosque area is a paradigm that there is still discrimination in using public facilities. One of the factors causing people with physical disabilities to be unable to be independent and not have confidence when doing activities in the public environment is due to obstacles from the availability of facilities provided, as well as an environment that has not implemented an inclusive attitude. Accessibility for people with physical disabilities through universal design principles is an important aspect in fulfilling the access rights of all users and the first step in realizing an inclusive environment. This has also been regulated in the law on persons with disabilities and building facilities requirements related to the right to obtain easy access in utilizing places of worship.
This research aims to examine accessibility in mosques for people with physical disabilities through the application of universal design principles. In doing activities in public spaces, people with physical disabilities are a group that often experiences architectural barriers. People with physical disabilities in this study include two categories, namely wheelchair users and walker users. The case study in this research is the Ar-Rahman Mosque, which is an iconic mosque in Blitar City that has thousands of visitors every day. The availability of accessible accessibility is needed to support the accommodation of all visitors. Therefore, the application of universal design principles in the accessibility aspect is useful for realizing equality for every individual. The object of focus in this research consists of twelve areas that are the main access in the Ar-Rahman Mosque.
The research methodology used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. To find out the condition of the accessibility of the Ar-Rahman Mosque, an
iiievaluation is carried out using an access audit mechanism in identifying each research object. The standard used as an access audit guideline is Permen PUPR Number 14 of 2017 combined with special guidelines for mosque spatial planning. These guidelines were chosen because they are considered compatible and applicable as a basis for conducting access audits based on article reviews that have been carried out through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Furthermore, after going through the access audit process, an assessment of accessibility and universal design is carried out to make it easier to map the condition of each object. The stages carried out include assessing accessibility indicators and universal design, as well as an overall evaluation assessment based on a rating scale. The assessment results are explained through a description of each object systematically so as to obtain a comprehensive conclusion.
The results showed that the accessibility of the Ar-rahman Mosque has largely met the criteria for accessibility aspects and universal design principles. However, there are still some areas that need to be optimized to support the accommodation of all users, especially people with physical disabilities. Based on the results of the research, in the final conclusion, recommendations are made to improve accessibility performance at the mosque. |
