Description
Summary:A comparative study on the richness and relationship of the Pteridophyta species at Ranca Upas and Kawah Putih, Mount Patuha, Ciwidey, West Java, has been done. The aims of this study arb inventory and comparing the diversity of ferns and its interaction with several environmental factors. Cruising method was used in sample collection, and cluster analysis using morphological characteristics were done. The observations was done from July, 1996 until February, 1997. From three habitats, were found 58 species of ferns. The mixed-forest at Ranca Upas (1650-1910 m), has the highest richness of terrestrial an epiphyte ferns, each were 23 and 28 species. The environmental parameters of this habitat were 6.71 for soil pH, 52.5% for soil humidity, 88% for air humidity, and 16.06oC for air temperature. Around the swamp at Ranca Upas, (1400-1900 m), were found 15 species of terrestrial ferns and 13 species of epiphytic ferns, the environmental parameters for this habitat were 6.75 for soil pH, 62.5% for soil humidity, 94% for air humidity, and 15.88oC for air temperature. Around Kawah Putih, Mount Patuha, (2050-2340 m), were found diversity of 11 terrestrial ferns species and 8 epiphytic ferns species. The environmental parameters were 6.63 for soil pH, 46.25 for soil humidity, and 13.5oC for air temperature. The correlation analysis between several environmental factors with the species richness of terrestrial ferns indicate that the clay soil texture , Fe and Mn content were highly correlated. Three different characteristics species from the genus Blechnum were found on each habitat. Blechnum vestitum was found in around of crater, Blechnum indicum was found in around of swamp while Blechnum orientale was found in the mixed-forest. From the dendrogram, a relationship among the species of the ferns, can be seen that 8 species of the genus Asplenium makes a significant group, so does the species of the genus Davallia, Cyathea and Blechnum. The species of the genus Blechnum have the farthest relationship with the species of the other genera at taxonomic level.
