CHARACTERIZATION OF SEDIMENT OF BAYAH FORMATION AT BANTEN AREA BASED ON CORE OF DDH-1 WELL AND DDH-2 WELL: PALYNOLOGICAL AND PALYNOFACIES APPROACH

The objective of this study is to characterize the sediment of Bayah Formation from core of DDH-1 well (242m) and DDH-2 (315m) through palynological, palynofacies and palynosequence methods. The samples were taken on a systematic sampling of 5 meter interval. There were 47 samples of DDH-1 and 62...

Description
Summary:The objective of this study is to characterize the sediment of Bayah Formation from core of DDH-1 well (242m) and DDH-2 (315m) through palynological, palynofacies and palynosequence methods. The samples were taken on a systematic sampling of 5 meter interval. There were 47 samples of DDH-1 and 62 samples of DDH-2 acquired from the sampling. Sediment preparation was done in Palynology Laboratory, Geological Engineering of ITB Laboratory in adherence to the standard methods in the Lab. The examination of the processed samples was carried out with light microscope at 400X magnification. The results of palynological investigation are presented in the form of pollen and palynodebris diagram, which were assessed for the basic interpretation. The result revealed that the age of Bayah Formation was Late Eocene to Early Oligocene with depositional environment varies and repetitive from fluvial plain to estuarine. Palynodebris character of Bayah Formation at DDH-1 core can be grouped into 6 palynofacies units while DDH-2 core into 7 palynofacies units. The palynofacies unit 1 to unit 4, showed similarities and can be correlated. Based on palynosequence analysis, there was 7 sedimentation cyclics. Going from old to young age respectively were cyclic 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Palynosequence on Bayah Formation of DDH-1 core and DDH-2 core showed correlation at sequence 4 and sequence 5. Datum of Palynofacies and palynosequence correlation was acme zone of Proxapertites operculatus that present consistently, both at DDH-1 well or DDH-2 well.
