Clean water acquiring was one of defiance for people who live in a slightingly plane and marsh area, because the available fount was a peat water. This problem was occured in Riau Province too. Riau Province had 45% peat area from its total dimension.
Peat water is a surface water with reddish brown color and acidic. It was a process to change peat water toward clean water. One of the process was adsorption way.
We could use industrial or household waste like chicken eggshell as adsorbent. The objective of this research was to reduce the color of peat water by the addition of eggshell. Humus, consist of humic acid, fulvic acid and humin act as color source in peat water and could be adsorbed onto eggshell porous. Batch process was performed to evaluate the effect of parameters such as eggshell mass, contact time, temperature and pH. The maximum color adsorption was 94%. Adsorption process was good in low pH and it was not influenced by contact time and temperature, relatively. The adsorption processes is monolayer which follows Langmuir isotherm. This reduction of peat water's color by eggshell could be used as a problem-based learning to learn chemistry in high school. |
