Description
Summary:Ventilation is one way to maintain room air quality and comfort. Soleh Hawa Mosque ladies’ ablution room and toilet ventilation was predicted to be inadequate. This study aimed to design and perform a computational fluid dynamics simulation of the room ventilation system. This ventilation system was expected to meet ventilation criteria, which consist of ventilation rate, airflow pattern, and thermal comfort. The designed room air ventilation system was modeled as steady, without environmental wind, also by evaluating environmental heat transfer and room air humidity changes. The model primary data consist of room dimensions and air temperature measurement. While secondary data are the physical properties of air and related materials, solar irradiation variables, and applied exhaust fans specifications. The ventilation system geometry model and domain were prepared using ANSYS software. The chosen room air ventilation system design consists of several strategically placed exhaust fans and grilles on the toilet doors. Calculation of the system model simulation was carried out using ANSYS FLUENT. The simulation results show the system design is able to meet the ventilation needs in mantaining air quality according to its room type. The ablution space, washroom, and toilets have ventilation rates of 360 L/s, 180 L/s, and 142 L/s, respectively. Although the designed ventilation system is not yet able to satisfy room thermal comfort generally, it is hoped this ventilation system may be implemented and improve the ventilation health aspect in Soleh Hawa Mosque ladies’ ablution room and toilet.
