Description
Summary:Urban villages are a form of settlement located in urban areas. Urban villages have physical characteristics of buildings and environments that are less organized or irregular because both buildings and the environments grow organically. Another characteristic is high population density and a lack of basic facilities and infrastructure. These urban villages face a problem, which is the lack of suitable and safe social and play spaces. As a result, children play in unsuitable places such as alleys, streets, parking lots, and empty lots. In order to provide dedicated social and play spaces, the application of flexible concepts in social and play areas is expected to address this issue. Therefore, this thesis focuses on how the concept of flexibility is applied to the design of public open spaces in urban villages for social and children's play activities. The research was conducted in the playgrounds of Kampoeng West Pakulonan, South Tangerang City. Data collection was carried out through literature studies, observations, and documentation of playgrounds in Kampoeng West Pakulonan. The results from this research was used to provide recommendations for design points and the application of flexibility concepts based on the characteristics of the typology of space forms found in Kampoeng West Pakulonan. The concept of flexibility inside the social and playing network was applied by considering distances, the characteristics of space form typology, and the typology of social activities related to children's play. Thus, the design of social and play spaces can use the flexibility concept that is adjusted to the typology of space forms and the typology of social activities related to children's play in Kampoeng West Pakulonan.
