Description
Summary:High-speed train transportation offers various advantages compared to the airplane transportation. In Indonesia, high-speed train product has been developed under the name of "Kereta Cepat Merah Putih" (KCMP) which is operated in the Sulawesi Island region, on the Makassar-Parepare route. Even though passive protection technology on trains continues to be improved, in fact accidents that occur on several other high-speed train models can still cause fatalities, so it is necessary to analyse the quality of the energy absorbing structure at KCMP. Several studies have shown that the impact energy from collision is not completely absorbed by the locomotive structure (Main Car), as a result, a certain amount of energy is channelled to the train set behind the locomotive (Trailer Car). Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on energy absorption at intercar connections due to the transmitted collision energy, or better known as the low-energy management system at KCMP. From these problems, a numerical analysis will be carried out to evaluate the low-energy management system at KCMP, both in the form of energy absorption values, the maximum force received by the structure, and the deformation mode of the Main Car (MC) and Trailer Car (TC). The numerical simulation results show that some parameters for fulfilling crashworthiness regulation have been met. However, there are some parameters that haven’t been fulfilled. Geometric modification has been done to increase KCMP’s ability for fulfilling crashworthiness regulation.
