MODELING THE SUBSURFACE STRUCTURE OF OIL AND GAS SOURCE AREAS IN NORTH SUMATRA PROVINCE USING THE GRAVITY METHOD

The Central Sumatra Basin is a sedimentary area in Sumatra Island, rich in natural resources such as oil and natural gas. The gravity method is used in geophysics to determine subsurface structures by measuring gravitational acceleration and identifying density contrast variations in rocks. This...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/77600 The Central Sumatra Basin is a sedimentary area in Sumatra Island, rich in natural resources such as oil and natural gas. The gravity method is used in geophysics to determine subsurface structures by measuring gravitational acceleration and identifying density contrast variations in rocks. This method is very useful in discovering natural resources in the research area, such as in the Northern Sumatra Basin. This study discusses the use of the gravity method to determine the distribution of hydrocarbon potential in the region by analyzing data obtained from (Pusat Survey Geologi) PSG. After a series of corrections, the complete Bouguer anomaly data is separated into regional and residual anomalies through spectral analysis and filtering using a Butterworth filter. This study successfully determined the distribution map of the complete Bouguer anomaly, as well as the depth of the regional and residual zones in the study area. In addition, this study also used three-dimensional inversion modeling with seismic crosssectional data to determine the hydrocarbon potential in the study area. text
