THE IMPORTANCE OF TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION: A CASE STUDY IN CIKAO INDUSTRIAL AREA

It has been known that technologies are deemed useful for societies, including businesses such as productivity increase or reduced the need of manual labor. Technology advancement has helped business in lots of ways, with lots of technology company brands to choose for. But in several cases, companies would have to carefully decide whether or not their companies utilize technologies, mostly due to the costs, labor skills, and employees' acceptance of technology, especially in the Cikao Industrial Area located in Jatiluhur District, Purwakarta, Indonesia. This research paper aims to have a deeper understanding of employee technology adoption in companies within the industrial area with the help of the TAM framework. By focusing the research towards 2 distinct companies in the industrial area using surveys and interviews, it was revealed that the main factor influencing employee’s attitude towards technology adoption in this area is perceived ease of use. This study also shows that perceived usefulness and technology proficiency is also a significant contributor to employee’s attitude towards technology adoption. The data analysis shows that there are frequent issues in the 2 companies that resulted in the decrease of employee’s perceived ease of use. Moreover, This study resulted in managerial recommendations aimed towards each of the 2 companies under study and other companies within the Cikao Industrial Area with the main idea to increase employees' perception towards technology.
