DEVELOPMENT OF CITARUM HULU RIVER WATER QUALITY BASED ON WATER QUALITY INDEX DURING THE RESTORATION PROGRAM IN 2017 - 2021

Topographical conditions and the rapid development of urban and industrial areas in the Upper Citarum River area have caused many pollution problems to the river water. Various programs have been carried out to restore the river, including: Citarum Bergetar (2001-2003), Citarum Terpadu (2008-2011...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/77676 Topographical conditions and the rapid development of urban and industrial areas in the Upper Citarum River area have caused many pollution problems to the river water. Various programs have been carried out to restore the river, including: Citarum Bergetar (2001-2003), Citarum Terpadu (2008-2011), Citarum Bestari (2013-2018), and Citarum Harum (2018-2025). This study aims to determine the development of water quality of the Upper Citarum River based on 8 water quality parameters (pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, Nitrate, Total Phosphate, and Fecal coli), Pollution Index (IP), and Water Quality Index (WQI) in wet and dry months of 2017-2021 according to the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 27 of 2021 about Environmental Quality Index. comparing the 2017 and 2021 data, the results of 8 parameters in wet and dry months showed that all parameters improved, except Nitrate and Fecal coli. The results of the IP in wet months showed Wangisagara remained in the Lightly Polluted category and Koyod remained in the Moderately Polluted category, Cisirung and Nanjung increased to Severely Polluted. In dry months, Wangisagara remained in the Lightly Polluted category, Koyod and Cisirung remained in the Moderately Polluted category, and Nanjung increased to Severely Polluted. The calculation of WQI show that the WQI of the Upper Citarum River in wet and dry months has decreased but is still in the Poor category. The values of IKA in wet months for 2017 and 2021 are 35 points and 25 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the IKA of the in dry months in 2017 and 2021 are 35 points and 30 points, respectively. text
