Description
Summary:Prayer mats are prayer equipment used by Muslims, including elderly Muslims. When performing prayers, the challenges faced by the elderly are postural imbalances and pain in the feet. This challenge is caused by musculoskeletal disorders experienced by the elderly. Therefore, research was conducted with the aim of identifying the proposed concept of ergonomic prayer rug products that suit the needs of the elderly. This research consists of six main stages, namely identification of customer needs, determination of target specifications, generation of product concepts, selection of product concepts, testing of product concepts, and determination of final specifications. At the stage of identifying customer needs, interviews are conducted with the elderly to get needs. The stage continues to determine the target specification so that the target specification is produced in the form of marginal value and metric ideal value. Next, a product concept is raised based on potential needs and problems. Several identified alternative product concepts were then selected with Pugh's assessment matrix. The selected alternative product concept is then tested with a postural sway test using a force plate and purchase intention calculations. Postural sway tests are carried out to determine the ergonomics of the product through a biomechanical approach. Finally, finalization of product specifications is carried out according to the identified metrics. From the product concept development process carried out, a prayer rug product concept proposal was obtained consisting of three layers, namely micro suede fabric, mambo weaving, and anti-slip fabric. The prayer rug has a length of 110 cm, a width of 70 cm, and a thickness of between 0.5 – 1 cm. The prayer rug is designed to be portable and has a minimalist design. The results of this study can be used as input for future research in developing ergonomic prayer rugs for the elderly. Further research can be done by developing product concepts to the system level design stage, detail design, prototype and testing, and production process improvement. In addition, for prayer rug manufacturers, the proposed prayer rug concept can be used as a reference in producing ergonomic prayer rugs so that prayer rug products are comfortable to use by users.
