Description
Summary:Global warming as a result of excessive greenhouse effect is an alarming natural phenomenon in the age of digitalization. Increased greenhouse gas emissions due to human combustion activities cause an increase in Earth's surface temperature and adverse global impacts. This research aims to design an Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) for Information Technology (IT) equipment management at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) based on emission estimation and End-of-Life (EOL) management of IT equipment. The IDSS design was conducted using a series of development methods defined by five main steps: asset management, emission calculation, model development, EOL management, and IDSS development. This research utilized an ARIMA (1, 1, 2) prediction model with an accuracy level of 0.8 which was used to predict the future procurement of IT equipment. The research revealed the fact that currently the emissions generated by ITB from the use of IT equipment reached about 3,338 tCO2 and is predicted to increase to about 4,000 tCO2 in the next three years. The IDSS developed in the research has the functionality to cope with the threat of future emission spikes. The IDSS tested about 88.37% of its functionality from the black-box testing results. The IDSS provides a series of initiatives that can be used as a reference for ITB to curtail potential emissions in the future. The developed IDSS is expected to assist ITB in reducing these greenhouse gas emissions both locally and globally by considering future emission estimation as well as IT equipment EOL management.
