Description
Summary:The area of study is located in the South Kakap Block, West Natuna Basin, Riau Islands Province. The purpose of this study is to understand the source rock in the West Natuna Basin. This study includes source rock evaluation (quantity, quality, and maturity of organic matter), geochemical correlation, and source rock interpretation based on reverse geochemistry. A total of 431 geochemistry data from three PT Star Energy wells are used in this study. The initial sample data was then selected based on the total organic carbon (TOC) value ?0,5% resulting the total of 192 data included for further analysis. Seven oil samples taken from Lama Formation were correlated based on biomarker characteristics. Based on source rock evaluation, Benua Formation and Lama Formation qualify as source rocks based on richness, maturity, and the type of organic matter. Geochemical analysis shows that there is one oil family in the area of study. The oil samples originate from mixed kerogen estimated to be planktonic bacterial in the lacustrine depositional environment. The formation that has geological characteristics similar to the geological characteristics of those oil samples are Lama Formation and Benua Formation.
