Histamin induced contraction in guinea-pig ileum was treated with an infusion and an aqueous soluble ethanol extract, both prepared from Curcuma domestica Val. rhizomes and Elephantopus scaber L. leaves. Both plant extracts in increasing doses inhibited contractions elicited by histamine stimulation...

Both plant extracts in increasing doses inhibited contractions elicited by histamine stimulation on isolated guinea-pig. The aqueous soluble ethanol extract of Curcuma domestica Val. was found more effective (P < 0, 05) than its infusion. On the other hand, the difference in effectiveness between the infusion and the aqueous soluble ethanol extract of Elephantopus scaber L. was not signifficant (P;>0,005). In active anaphylaxis, both plant extracts protected the guinea pigs against antigen (horse serum) induced challenge. The effect was more pronounced in Elephantopus scaber L. treated animals (P<0,05). text
