MODELLING MOTORCYCLISTS’ INTENTION IN GOING THROUGH RAILWAY LEVEL CROSSING

The number of railway crossing accidents involving motorcyclists is very high compared to other types of road users. The purpose of this study is to study the behavior of motorcyclists in violating railroad crossings at barrier closing cycle. A total of 259 people participated in the study by fil...

The purpose of this study is to study the behavior of motorcyclists in violating railroad crossings at barrier closing cycle. A total of 259 people participated in the study by filling out an online questionnaire which was adapted from the theory of planned behavior in three cycle situations of barrier closing cycle. The questionnaire uses a five-point Likert scale which is then processed using descriptive analysis, inferential statistics, and structural equation modeling (SEM). Field observations were also carried out to measure the level of violations at busy and non-busy times. The results of this study are that attitude, past behavior and traffic environments influence the risky behavior of motorcyclists in all situations. Demographic factors in the form of work, frequency of crossing crossings, and types of crossings affect self-report violations as well as the intention to violate them. As the risk increased, it was found that the intention to violate, the frequency of self-report violations, and the rate of violations based on observations, were significantly reduced. text
