INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/77976 The Lembang Fault is one of the active major faults in West Java that serves as the source of earthquakes. Therefore, further observations of the tectonic deformation of the Lembang Fault are necessary. This research utilizes GPS data to calculate strain rates as the basis for determining the deformation experienced by the Lembang Fault. The velocity vectors indicate that the movement along the Lembang Fault is of a strike-slip type. The magnitude of the movement rate generated by the Lembang Fault is 1.0924 cm/year. The strain rate pattern generated shows a tendency for compression, with increasing strain rates in the areas around the fault line. Conversely, dilation values are lower in the areas around the fault line. Using the strain rate values, the calculated moment magnitude along the Lembang Fault is 3.51963×1018. This moment magnitude is used to estimate the earthquake recurrence period of the Lembang Fault, which falls in the range of 135000 to 140000 years. This recurrence period is relatively long for a maximum magnitude of approximately ±6.41. However, comprehensive mitigation measures should still be prepared considering that the Lembang Fault is located near a densely populated city. text |

The Lembang Fault is one of the active major faults in West Java that serves as
the source of earthquakes. Therefore, further observations of the tectonic
deformation of the Lembang Fault are necessary. This research utilizes GPS data
to calculate strain rates as the basis for determining the deformation experienced
by the Lembang Fault. The velocity vectors indicate that the movement along the
Lembang Fault is of a strike-slip type. The magnitude of the movement rate
generated by the Lembang Fault is 1.0924 cm/year. The strain rate pattern
generated shows a tendency for compression, with increasing strain rates in the
areas around the fault line. Conversely, dilation values are lower in the areas
around the fault line. Using the strain rate values, the calculated moment
magnitude along the Lembang Fault is 3.51963×1018. This moment magnitude is
used to estimate the earthquake recurrence period of the Lembang Fault, which
falls in the range of 135000 to 140000 years. This recurrence period is relatively
long for a maximum magnitude of approximately ±6.41. However, comprehensive
mitigation measures should still be prepared considering that the Lembang Fault
is located near a densely populated city. |
