The Pit XYZ varies in coal characteristics and models that have not yet been analyzed in detail which often causes problems in production. The objectives of the study are to identify depositional environment, characteristics, quality, and coal resources estimation in the Pit XYZ. The identification of the coal depositional environment was conducted using stratigraphic and coal petrography analysis. The characteristics and quality of the coal were determined based on the proximate coal test data. The estimation of coal resources was determined using circular method, calculated without including spotted areas, and by including spotted areas. The area of study can be divided into four informal units which are the Schist Unit, Sandstone Unit, Sandstone-Claystone Unit, and Alluvial Unit. The Sandstone Unit was identified as the coal bearing unit. Stratigraphic analysis indicates that the research area can be divided into four facies associations, consisting of swamp, crevasse splay, channel, and interdistributary bay. These facies associations show a depositional environment of transitional lower delta plain. Based on the coal petrography analysis result, the type of coal depositions were located in fen environments. Coal quality in the area of study was classified as a high volatile A bituminous coal with the mean calorific value of 6,859 kcal/kg arb, ash content ranging from 5-15% adb, sulfur content <1% adb, and making it suitable for use as thermal coal. The total coal resources with a calorific value of >5,000 kcal/kg arb excluding spotted areas were 31,624,110 tons with 11,344,640 tons of inferred resources, 16,979,396 tons of indicated resources, and 3,300,074 tons of measured resources. Total amount of resources in the area of study with regard of spotted areas was 31,249,345 tons with 10,664,597 tons of inferred resources, 13,025,765 tons of indicated resources, and 7,558,983 tons of measured resources. The difference in resources estimation was caused by the distance within drilling points. Thus, there needs to be drilling point addition to minimize the spotted area. text
