It aims to coordinate signalized intersections in real-time based on on-theground traffic conditions. Its intended implementation is expected to have an overall positive impact on traffic conditions at intersections as well as the transportation network. Despite the initial plan to implement the Area Traffic Control System in Ambon City, the capital of Maluku province in 2018, there has been no implementation at present. Ambon City experiences an annual increase in vehicle growth and accident rates. Hence, conducting research to identify potential locations for deploying the Area Traffic Control System in Ambon City is imperative. The study centered on six signalized intersections in the heart of Ambon City. The selection of locations for implementing the Area Traffic Control System in Ambon city center was determined by formulating criteria and sub-criteria through the Analytical Hierarchy Process method, which acted as weights for scoring analysis. The priorities for implementation were then assessed at six intersections. Based on the findings from the Analytic Hierarchy Process, road performance is the most influential criterion with a weight of 58,4% compared to the other two criteria. Of the thirteen sub-criteria, only three greatly impact each criterion. The VC ratio sub-criteria have the most impact on road performance criteria, accounting for 68,7% of the weight. The distance to the nearest intersection sub-criteria is most important for road geometric criteria, weighing 32,5%. Regarding land use criteria, the commercial area sub-criteria carry the most weight with a percentage of 38,1%. Out of the six intersections studied, AlFatah intersection received the highest score of 3,851. However, ATCS application is recommended at all six intersections as they score greater than 3,5. Intersections with road sections having a low VC ratio, short distance to the next intersection, and commercial areas are more optimal for ATCS implementation. This research may be replicated to determine the location of ATCS for similar cases, particularly in cities with characteristics similar to Ambon. text
