Description
Summary:The iron and steel industry is one of the upstream industries which has become a strategic industry in Indonesia, because it has a major role in supplying vital raw materials for development in various fields, from providing infrastructure, production of capital goods, and transportation equipment, to weapons. Based on data from the Indonesia Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA), the trend of steel production in Indonesia has consistently increased from 2015 to 2021, with an average increase of 21% each year. This increase in steel production was due to an increase in domestic steel consumption, due to the continuation of national and private strategic projects, such as the construction of the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago, electric vehicles, and the Program to Increase the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN). Iron and steel production is very energy intensive, therefore iron and steel production are closely related to resource conservation, energy efficiency, and emission reduction. PT X is one of the iron and steel industries in Indonesia which during its production consumes large amounts of resources, both material, energy, and water, and produces waste that can pollute the environment. This study aims to determine the value of resource efficiency in production and identify opportunities for cleaner production by exploring ways to reduce emissions, as well as by saving to optimize the productivity of energy, material, and water systems. The research was carried out through a literature study stage, collecting data from related industries, both in the form of primary and secondary data. The data taken is in the form of net production parameters, namely resources (water, materials, and energy) and waste (air emissions, wastewater, and solid waste), as well as identification of potential savings. From the observations and subsequent calculations, data analysis was carried out to find out the efficiency of implementing the concept of clean production in the manufacture of iron and steel, as well as what strategies need to be applied. The results of the study show that PT X already owns and implements various strategies for implementing cleaner production, from efforts to increase resource productivity to reduce emissions and waste intensity, but the values are fluctuating so alternative suggestions for implementing cleaner production are needed
