Description
Summary:Food insecurity and food crises are current global problems. One of which occurred in the city of Bandung which is the 2nd most populous city in Indonesia. Factors that trigger food insecurity in the city of Bandung include the increase in population which results in limited agricultural land due to land conversion, extreme climate change, a reduction in the number of farmers, 96% of food supplied from outside the city, and the long supply of food from outside the city. provision. long-distance distribution systems which can worsen food quality, causing impacts on human health such as stunting and also negative impacts on the environment due to organic waste. In this case, to obtain food, the people of Bandung City use city facilities established by the Bandung City government, namely the Traditional Market. Responding to this problem, the author proposes to design the traditional market at Gedebage’s Market which has food insecurity problems on an area of 12.5 Ha using an urban farming approach where agricultural businesses utilize the land around the community. To implement an urban farming approach at Gedebage’s Market, a juxtaposition design method is needed that will place, side by side, or connect urban farming with the traditional market to create a contrasting combination to provide strength and positive value for the traditional market and to stimulate the market to become new patterns and habits in creating self food system in Bandung City. Through the juxtaposition method with the urban farming approach, the traditional market design can be produced that shows the principles of transprogramming: Sustainable farm to table, dynamics: design for growth, design in an adaptive climate and development of network systems, irregularity: providing for the need for human connection with nature and transparency: connectivity between humans and the urban farming system in the Gedebage’s Market building.
