INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/78136 The Barito Basin represents a significant coal-bearing basin in the Southern Sundaland. PT Asmin Bara Bronang (ABB) operates an active coal mining site in the Barito Basin without conducting a detailed assessment of its potential coal resources. Therefore, it is necessary to do a further study regarding the depositional environments, coal characteristics, and detailed resources calculation to determine the future of the resources. About 15 field observations data were obtained from the mining area of PT ABB, also additional data from 47 drill data, coal specimen, proximate and ultimate test data, coring data, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and geological maps. Coal depositional environments are determined through lithofacies analysis using outcrops data and maceral analysis. Coal characteristics are determined through coal ranks and coal grades based on proximate and ultimate test data. Finally, Minescape software is used for coal seams modelling and resources calculation based on SNI 5015:2019. Based on observations, the study area is divided into two units, the Sandstoneclaystone Unit and the Sandstone Unit. Both units are part of the Tanjung Formation, which was deposited during the Eocene. The existing geological structures, in the form of fold and reverse fault, are interpreted as a result of the uplift of the Meratus Heights. The results of the lithofacies analysis show that the lithology of the study area can be classified into five lithofacies, grouped into three facies associations, consisting of channels, crevasse splays, and interdistributary bay. These facies associations are part of the transitional lower delta plain. Based on maceral analysis, the coal was formed under limnic condition within a clastic marsh environment. The coal is ranked as High Volatile Bituminous-B coal, the grade characterized as low sulphur coal, with variation of ash contents. The study area has a moderate level of geological conditions, with measured resources of 9.037.949,92 tons, indicated resources of 6.028.643,62 tons, and inferred resources of 5.148.779,78 tons. text
