Description
Summary:Rapid technological advancement, particularly in Extended Reality (XR) technology like Virtual Reality (VR), has been pivotal in various fields, including education. This study focuses on enhancing VR's educational applications, particularly in the context of mind mapping. Traditional VR controllers have limitations, including battery usage and potential for loss, hindering a complete immersive experience. To address these issues, we explore hand-based controllers within a VR mind mapping application. This study aims to improve mind map creation efficiency. It introduces specialized gesture features in the application, utilizing hand tracking in the Meta Quest 2 VR device and employing a Decision Tree classification method for gesture recognition. Evaluation involves measuring mind map creation times using controllers, hand tracking, and the specialized gesture feature for predefined topics. Results reveal significant efficiency gains: a 29.6% improvement over hand tracking alone and a 20.76% enhancement over controllers. This development holds promise for future VR applications in education.
