Environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, and the presence of corrosive gases can all contribute to the corrosion process. This paper discusses the investigation of the corrosion on an iron pin and cap of ceramic insulator at the transmission line of Adipala - Kesugihan. The area, where insulator sample for this study were taken from, has a warm and humid climate with relatively high temperatures throughout the year, making this region vulnerable to corrosion. Experiments were conducted on four different insulators with varying degrees of corrosion under artificial field conditions, which use salt fog made of local seawater. At four different voltages, leakage current measurements were carried out to determine the leakage current magnitude and harmonic contents. Corrosion itself is affected by environmental factors such as humidity, pollution levels, rainfall, temperature, and wind speed. As a result, studies were conducted to determine how each environmental factor affects corrosion. Four dry insulator samples with varying degrees of corrosion were tested in two different environmental conditions, which are clean fog and salt fog made of seawater from Jakarta and South Java, to obtain the magnitude and harmonic of the leakage current. It was determined that the environmental condition has significant impact on corrosion. Insulator tested in clean fog has smaller leakage current than the one tested in salt fog. text |
