This study investigates the effects of time-restricted feeding (TRF) on diabetes mellitus and its interaction with metformin activity in rats. Rats induced with alloxan were subjected to different fasting durations (12 hours, 16 hours, or 20 hours) along with metformin treatment or a control group. The rats' blood glucose levels and body weight were measured on the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and 35th days after fasting. The groups of rats subjected to 16-hour and 20-hour fasting showed a significant decrease in blood glucose levels and body weight (p<0.05) compared to the control group. However, the 12-hour fasting group did not show a significant difference (p>0.05) compared to the control group. Oral metformin treatment significantly reduced blood glucose levels and body weight (p<0.05). The TRF therapy group given metformin did not show a significant difference in reducing blood glucose levels and body weight (p>0.05) compared to the metformin group. These results indicate that TRF with a fasting window of 16 and 20 hours effectively lowers blood glucose levels and body weight in rats with diabetes. However, TRF does not affect the activity of metformin. text |

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder commonly characterized by elevated blood glucose levels.
This study investigates the effects of time-restricted feeding (TRF) on diabetes mellitus and its
interaction with metformin activity in rats. Rats induced with alloxan were subjected to different fasting
durations (12 hours, 16 hours, or 20 hours) along with metformin treatment or a control group. The
rats' blood glucose levels and body weight were measured on the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, and 35th days
after fasting. The groups of rats subjected to 16-hour and 20-hour fasting showed a significant decrease
in blood glucose levels and body weight (p<0.05) compared to the control group. However, the 12-hour
fasting group did not show a significant difference (p>0.05) compared to the control group. Oral
metformin treatment significantly reduced blood glucose levels and body weight (p<0.05). The TRF
therapy group given metformin did not show a significant difference in reducing blood glucose levels
and body weight (p>0.05) compared to the metformin group. These results indicate that TRF with a
fasting window of 16 and 20 hours effectively lowers blood glucose levels and body weight in rats with
diabetes. However, TRF does not affect the activity of metformin.
