Description
Summary:Indonesia has abundant natural resources including plants that can be used as traditional herbal medicines. One of them is turmeric. However, the curcumin content in turmeric requires piperine from black pepper to increase its bioavailability. One of the herbal products containing curcumin and piperine is Ganeshfit. This research was conducted to identify Indonesian people's familiarity with turmeric, determine the prevalence of traditional herbal medicines that are commonly used in the community, also determine acceptability and identify Ganeshfit competition in the market. This was a cross-sectional observation study using primary data derived from questionnaires filled in by 313 respondents, as well as additional 59 respondents of Ganeshfit users. The results of the analysis showed that 89.78% of respondents who use traditional herbal medicines or herbal supplements were familiar with the benefits of turmeric, 61% of respondents used traditional herbal medicines containing turmeric, and products that were commonly used to maintain a healthy body were ready-to-use traditional herbal medicines, in solid dosage forms. The comparison of the effects felt by the two groups did differ statistically (p = 0.854; p = 0.201; p = 0.088), except for the effect related to reduced digestive problems (p = 0.037). Comparison of reasons for using traditional herbal medicines in the two groups also did not differ significantly (p > 0.05). Based on the results, Ganeshfit potentially accepted in a wider market and may be able to compete with other herbal products (traditional herbal medicines and herbal supplements) which are commonly used in Indonesia.
