This system uses polymers that are responsive to acidic pH in inflammatory tissues. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of MSN with gatekeeper functionalization was carried out for controlled release of celecoxib which was influenced by pH. The research involved synthesis of MSN and functionalization of amine groups, entrapment of celecoxib into MSN, adhesion of PEI and PEI-Imidazole as gatekeepers to MSN, characterization including particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, determination of efficiency and entrapment capacity, as well as in vitro release test of celecoxib from MSN on pH 5.5 and pH 7.4. MSN containing celecoxib with PEI and PEI-imidazole as gatekeeper has been prepared with particle size <500 nm and polydispersity index <0.5. The resulting MSN was able to trap celecoxib with an efficiency of 12.89 ± 0.02% and a capacity of 12.91 ± 0.02%. There was no significant difference in the release profile of celecoxib between the two polymers at pH 7.4. Celecoxib release profile showed an increase with PEI-Imidazole compared to PEI at pH 5.5, but not significant. text
