Summary: | Twenty samples set of coal from Murung Raya area were collected to determine
the value of free swelling index (FSI), microscopy composition, and its chemical
composition. The outcomes of analysis were used to investigate the degree of
influence from several parameters (i.e. reflectance vitrinite, maceral composition,
moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen,
and total sulphur) to the value of FSI. Moreover, the results of the analysis were
also used to estimate the generation of natural coke in geological nature at
Murung Raya area. All samples were obtained from core drill hole and channel
sampling technique which selected based on variety of lithotype within five
different coal seams. The FSI posses value ranging from 1 to 7.5, it is considered
that microscopy and chemical composition of coal as conclusive parameters.
Whilst, local and regional geological structure have some effects to the physical
and chemical properties of coal in nature which interpreted to be a kind of factor
for natural coke generation. The simply statistical of linear regression analysis
was performed to determine the correlationship between the microscopy analysis
(i.e. vitrinite reflectance (???? ? r) and maceral composition) and chemical analyses
(i.e. proximate and ultimate) to the results of FSI analysis. The present study
revealed that only three dominant parameters have significant effect to value of
FSI which consist of moisture (r = -0.52), fixed carbon (r = +0.62), and carbon (r
= +0.57). On the basis of the laboratory approach that has been done, the thermal
effects of local geological structures, especially for Intrusion Sintang has no
significant effect to physical and chemical of coal which can turn it into natural
coke. |
