Summary: | Aging process that causes wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity is a skin problem that can prevented by using cosmetic that maintains skin moisture and has anti oxidant activity. One of natural ingredients that potential for anti-wrinkle purpose is argan oil. The objective of this study was to formulate of argan oil in the form of nanoemulsion formulation and evaluate its antiwrinkles activity in vivo. First, antioxidant activity of argan oil was determined by DPPH assay. Then, optimization of the nanoemulsion composed of argan oil, Tween 80 as surfactant, PEG 400, etanol, and gliserin as cosurfactant, and deionized water were done. Formula optimization was carried out by varying the amount of surfactant, cosurfactant, and oil to produce stable, transparant which small globule size formula. Organoleptic and physical stability of nanoemulsion was also evaluated. The safety evaluation was conducted by primary and ocular irritation test on rabbits and irritation test on six selected healthy woman volunteers. Anti-wrinkle activity of argan oil's nanoemulsion was conducted by video-dermatoscopy method on 6 selected volunteers in-vivo. The results showed that argan oil has an antioxidant activity by EC50 of 2,75%. The nanoemulsion developed by this study was composed of Tween 80 of 18.75%, glycerin of 6.25%, argan oil of 3%, and deionized water of 67%. The nanoemulsion was stable during 28 days of storage. Safety evaluation on rabbits and volunteers showed that nanoemulsion of argan oil has no irritation potential. The anti wrinkle effectiveness evaluation of argan oil's nanoemulsion that was conducted on 6 volunteers using video-dermatosocpe showed a decrease in the level of wrinkles. Argan oil had an antioxidant activity. Nanoemulsion formulation of argan oil was stable during storage. Nanoemulsion of argan oil was safe and reduced the level of wrinkles.
