PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF WOOD BARK PLASTIC COMPOSITE MIXED OF GMELINA (GMELINA ARBOREA ROXB.) WOOD BARK AND RECYCLED POLYPROPYLENE PLASTIC ON VARIATIONS IN MALEIC ANHYDRIDE CONCENTRATION AND MATRIX TYPE

The increase in demand for wood products causes an increase in the production of wood processing waste including tree bark. Apart from that, the development of social life tends to increase the total production of waste produced, including plastic waste. One solution to overcome this problem is thro...

Apart from that, the development of social life tends to increase the total production of waste produced, including plastic waste. One solution to overcome this problem is through the manufacture of wood bark plastic composites (WBPC). This research aims to determine the effect of the type of recycled polypropylene matrix and MAH concentration on the physical characteristics and mechanisms of WBPC. WBPC in this study was made using Gmelina bark particles (Gmelina arborea Roxb) and recycled polypropylene (PP) plastic with varying treatments at MAH concentrations (0%; 2.5%; 5%; and 7.5%) by weight. matrix and type of recycled PP matrix used (pellets, chopped, and pellet:chopped [ratio 1:1]). Testing of the physical and mechanical characteristics of WBPC refers to the JIS 5908:2003 and SNI 03-2105-2006 standards for base particle board. The results of this study indicate that the type of recycled polypropylene matrix has a significant effect on the physical and mechanical characteristics of WBPC, while the MAH concentration only has a significant effect on the physical characteristics of WBPC. WBPC PR2.5 (a mixture of PP plastic pellets: shredded [1:1] and MAH concentration of 2.5%) is the WBPC with the best overall physical and mechanical characteristics. text
