One of the unique aspects of some traditional performing arts is the use of puppetry, but there is a phenomenon of emotional response that occurs when individuals interact with puppet objects. This feeling is defined as the uncanny by Jentsch (1906), Sigmund Freud (1919), and Masahiro Mori (1940). This feeling arises due to uncertainty about the illusion of life in the movements of the puppet and the visual resemblance to living beings in the real world. This research employs Betawi Ondel-ondel as giant puppet objects, which are later transformed into 3D digital puppets. The research focus is a study with the following objectives: to understand the theory of the uncanny for use in digital Ondel-ondel stimulus experiments to measure individuals' levels of interest, to analyze the factors influencing individual emotional responses to digital Ondel-ondel stimuli using design and animation theory, and to establish a theory based on the relationship between independent and dependent variables, grounded in the measurement and descriptive essay of individual emotional responses. To achieve the research objectives, an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach is used. Data is collected in two phases: the first phase involves visual and virtual reality Ondel-ondel stimulus experiments measured using the Pre Emo Tool. The second phase consists of distributing essay forms regarding individuals' experiences with the object. The research findings can be summarized as follows: First, the psychological cycle shapes preferences, meaning individuals' experiences in the past and present form their memories and produce associations of past memories in thinking and emotionally responding to art and digital design, referred to as preferences. Second, the Designer's Digital Animation Knowledge Model is a model applied in the creation of good digital animation films, meaning animation films that effectively convey visuals and motion through digital technology and evoke emotional responses in individuals. The study concludes with a proposition that yields the "theory of human preferences in art and digital design." text
