Summary: | Helminthiasis is still a health problem in developing counties. Indonesia is a country with high endemic worm infection, the prevalence rate of 45-65% incidence of ascariasis particularly high risk in toddlers and elementary schoolage children. Karika (Carica pubescens Lenne & K. Koch) is a local plant which can only yow well in upland areas of Dieng, Wonosobo. The purpose of this study was to compare the methods of anthelmintic activity and to investigate the effect of karika fruits, leaves and seeds ethanol extract as direct ovicidal, indirect ovicidal, and vermicidal using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) and conventional methods. In this study, the seeds, fruits, and leaves of karika were extracted by reflux using ethanol. The in vitro BSLT method was performed by incubating nauplii and eggs of Artemia salina L. in test -solution, while the conventional test used eggs and worns of Ascaris lumbricoides var suum- A linear correlation was found between the BSLT anå the conventional method in the percentage of dead Artemia nauplii and eggs with that of Ascaris eggs and worms. In conclusion, karika seed of ethanol exfract gave the highest anthelmintic activity as direct ovicidal, indirect ovicida15 and vermicidal with LC100 of 5, 125, and 50 mg/ml, respectively.
