The continuous use of fossil fuels results in environmental damage in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Increasing the use of new renewable energy sources can help reduce CO2 emissions, where the utilization of this sources heavily depends on the local potential of each region. There is an abundant amount of renewable energy potential in Indonesia with solar energy having the biggest technical potential. Rooftop solar photovoltaic as one of technologies for generating electricity from solar energy is still very limited in Indonesia in terms of number of users. This limited number of users is thought to be a result of Indonesian people’s unknown perception of the acceptance for the technology. Previous research associated acceptance as intention and research that focused on the rooftop solar photovoltaics technology acceptance mostly associated acceptance as intention. From initial study on technology acceptance, intention can be integrated with expectation in seeing technology acceptance, so in this research factors influencing the rooftop solar photovoltaics technology is explained through both intention and expectation. This research aims to provide understandings about how intention and expectation factored in on influencing the acceptance of rooftop solar photovoltaics technology in Indonesia. Intention (BI) is influenced by performance expectation (PE), effort expectation (EE), social influence (SI) and price value (PV), meanwhile expectation (BE) is influenced by social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), government incentives (GI) and intention (BI) while also integrating moderation variable such as age (AGE), gender (GDR), and respondent’s experience on the rooftop solar photovoltaics technology (EXP). Respondents of this research were the individual of Indonesians who had not installed the technology at their place of residence, where these individuals own their own home and have the capacity to make decisions in said home. Data analyses were performed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). This study earned 167 qualified respondents and it was found that to see the acceptance of rooftop solar photovoltaics technology in Indonesia, the PV and EE factors are significant on influencing BI while PV has the greatest effect on explaining intention. BI dan SI are significant factors on influencing expectation (BE) and intention (BI) has the greatest effect on explaining expectations of Indonesian in accepting the technology. The moderating variable age is significantly positive in influencing the relationship between SI dan BI. Based on the simple slope analysis visualization, which indicates that older generations consider the opinions of their surroundings more to influence their intentions to accept the rooftop solar photovoltaics technology. This relationship was later confirmed in the multigroup analysis, where there is a significant difference for older generation category and younger generation category for the relationship of SI on influencing BI. text
