Summary: | To adapt and survive the circumstances and developments of the digital era,
universities need to carry out digital transformation. Although there is no agreed
definition, several studies state the definition of digital transformation. From these
definitions, it can be concluded that digital transformation is a process enabled by
adopting digital technology to improve or create new value radically. The COVID-
19 pandemic has accelerated digital transformation in various fields, including
higher education. Digital transformation in higher education still lags behind other
fields, such as trade, manufacturing, and healthcare. Some contributing factors
include difficulties in planning, strategizing, and cultural change. A framework is
needed that can be used as a guide by universities to overcome and reduce the
failure of digital transformation implementation. Research on digital
transformation frameworks that focus on the process point of view is rarely done.
In this research, a framework for digital transformation in higher education is
developed, which is focused on process and process capability measurement. The
resulting framework consists of several elements, such as the object-process model
(OPM), which provides a conceptual description of the digital transformation
process in higher education. Another element is the process reference model
(PRM), which contains the process definition and its relationship with other
processes. A process assessment model (PAM) was also developed to assess
process capability. This framework was developed regarding several international
standards, such as ISO 19450 for OPM and ISO 330xx family for PRM and PAM.
Evaluation of the framework is done by verification by experts and validation by
applying PAM to universities undergoing digital transformation. The evaluation
results state that this framework provides benefits on how to formalize the process
and measure it to be a reference for improving the quality of technology
development and implementation in higher education. |
