EFFORTS TO PRESERVE KAWASAN PERKAMPUNGAN BUDAYA BETAWI SETU BABAKAN

The city of Jakarta as the origin of Betawi culture is losing its cultural elements and being replaced by modern urban culture. To preserve Betawi culture, which is increasingly displaced, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has developed Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan as Betawi Cultural Heritage Areas, in keeping with Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2005. The aim of this research is to examine the preservation efforts of Betawi culture in Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan amidst modernization and high demands for development. The research methodology used a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing document analysis, observation, and interviews to gather data. Qualitative descriptive data analysis techniques were used in this research. The research showed that the development of Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan to preserve Betawi culture is considered quite effective that positively impacts the cultural ownership and economic aspects of the community While cuisine remains well preserved, Betawi cultural elements such as traditions and arts are gradually diminishing. The challenges of preserving Betawi culture in the area can be categorized into two categories: external factors, include (a) the impact of modernization and globalization on the residents of Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan; and (b) the influx of migrants into Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi Setu Babakan; and internal factors, include (a) the Betawi community's awareness of the importance of preserving Betawi culture and their willingness to be directly involved; and b) the suboptimal role of Unit Pengelola Kawasan Perkampungan Budaya Betawi as a policy stakeholder.
